The year 2008 is the year the people of Zimbabwe should stand and rise up against dictatorship. A year when the central bank boss Gideon Gono introduced the highest bank note denomination in the world. A country faced with cash shortages, high school fee increases, power shortages, water shortages, food shortages and declining manufacturing sector and a thriving black market. Zimbabwe is now a state which has been hijacked by vampire elites, who operate on their own notorius ethic of self aggrandizement and self perpetuation in power. Mugabe is now a liability to the people of Zimbabwe.
As we draw to the elections, which we however know is a delayed match it is a mandate of everyone who wants good governance to participate such that in an event of rigging we can be able to defend our stolen vote. As the current crop of students we feel it is our generational mandate to save and liberate the suffering people of Zimbabwe from the tyranic rule of Robert Mugabe.
ZINASU would like to assure all Zimbabweans that we are with them in these trying times. As robust, vigilant and united as the union is we shall certainly bring back the country to its rightfull owners. In power, is an artifial government, a government by deception run by a phalanx of degreed bandits, crocodile liberators who are not only out of touch with the people but perrenially locked in combat with them. The regime is now locked in the mantras of the past and completely unable to respond to the demands of a morden and market economy.
The current state of the economy cannot just be ignored, we need safe hands to run the economy so as to safe guard our heritage from the demise of Mugabe's incompetence. On Thursday last week, we saw the opposition party MDC, Students and other pro democrats participating in the FREEDOM MARCH despite the violent reaction by the police. To show ZANU PF's desperation the peaceful march was responded with brutal force, firing guns, teargas canisters to a defenseless people only armed with placards despite the march being cleared by the courts.
The police's response to the march just but clearly shows that the Thabo Mbeki mediated talks are just but a farce. It is in this light that the Zimbabwe National Students Union condemns and discards the talks with the uttermost contempt they derserve. It is crystal clear that ZANU PF is not negotiating in good faith, and that is a clear example of how they view the general population of Zimbabwe- AS FOOLS. We had high hopes in these talks that they were going to bring a solution to the current problems affcting the country.
As Students we want to warn Mugabe that your time is up, you are certainly a negation of the tradition of the liberation war, you are a disgrace to the blood of all who lost their lives for a better zimbabwe. You robbed our mothers and fathers of about three decades of their lives-YOUR TIME IS UP.GO PEACEFULLY.
Lastly we salute the students union for the high levels of political discipline they displayed during the ZINASU bI-ANNUAL CONGRESS held on the 18-19 January 2008 in Harare. This is by far one of the most well organised peaceful congesses ever to be held in Zimbabwe. Democracy of its highest order was shown during the elections of National Executive members, the electoral process can only be likened to Polokwane were the ANC congress was held. ZANU PF should copy and emulate ZINASU for being a democratic and transparent union. LONG LIVE ZINASU
