...as RESERVE Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr Gideon Gono's three children and Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri's son were deported from Australia
RESERVE Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr Gideon Gono's three children and Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri's son were deported from Australia following protests from disgruntled Zimbabwean students over deterioration of the education system, these children are paying for the sins committed by their fathers who have contributed fully in bringing Zimbabwe down on its knees.
Zimbabwe National Students Union, a representative body of Higher and Tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe highly commends the stance taken by the Australian Government after an announcement on Friday 17 August 2007 by the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Downer to deport children of Zimbabwean government officials and other people on the sanctions list studying in that country. They have seen it unfair for these students to study there while their fathers continue destroying the Zimbabwean economy and put the blame on foreign countries, it is high time these officials become accountable for their on misdeeds.
More than 300 children of Government and ZANU PF officials are studying abroad, enjoying " First World" health and education services while an ordinary Zimbabwean student cannot even afford a decent education under the present hostile economic conditions facing the country .The first group to be deported included Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri’s son Sylvester and Gideon Gono's twin daughters Pride and Praise, who were studying tourism and hospitality at La Trobe University, and his son Passion, who was doing music production in Sydney.
ZINASU commends such a noble stance taken by the Australian Government and encourages all other countries abroad to do the same as it is a good hindsight for the Zimbabwean Dictators to accept their failures in running the country. The Zimbabwe education delivery system standards are fast deteriorating and losing local, regional and international recognition. Mugabe and his cronies should feel the boomerang effect of their greediness.
