PRESIDENT SPEAKS TO THE UNION |
| |
Indeed, the struggle against tyranny is not yet over
|
The ZINASU President, Clever Bere commended all students from various tertiary institutions for defying the illegal tuition fees that were imposed by the illegitimate ZANU PF regime. The president went on to congratulate the students for successfully forcing the interim Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Washington Mbizvo, to issue out a statement compelling institutions of Higher Learning to revert to last term’s fees. Students were encouraged to rise and stand fast against the tyrannical regime of Robert Mugabe.
President Bere called upon the students of Zimbabwe not to recognize Mugabe as the Chancellor of all State Universities as he lost the March 29 elections. Zimbabweans should riot until Mugabe steps down.ZINASU condemned in the strongest terms, the Chinese Government for its continued support of the illegitimate Mugabe regime and called upon the people of China to stop associating with former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe.

We STAND guided by our Principles and Values |
Since its foundation in 1989 and formalization in 1997, the national students union, Zimbabwe National Students Union ZINASU has through the years remained consistent and resolute to its primary call for being, that is to create a representative platform of engagement with key stakeholders such as government, college and university authorities on issues concerning students.
It has remained our concern that students receive a decent education delivery system. This include up to standard learning, teaching and research facilities, a sound students funding package that allows conducive learning environment and a sustainably growing economy with vast employment and business opportunities.
Story telling from our brothers and sisters who went through the enriched Zimbabwe’s tertiary education of the 80s to late 90s used to motivate and rejuvenate students’ struggles with hope and anticipation to enjoy the same, alas, not with this adamant government of Robert Mugabe. Students’ hope and anticipation has turned into dismay and hatred. Poorly consulted decisions and ill prioritization of state resources has led to the collapse of social services, education and health was not spared.
It was actually the beginning of a road map to our liberation; in September 1999 the labour movement and the students union founded a political party, Movement for Democratic Change MDC. The people shall govern; time and need had come where Mugabe and his cronies had to leave office. In the March 2002 Presidential elections, MDC won overwhelmingly, oh yes we did. Indeed we needed a sustainable strategy post election.
Today, who does not claim locus and capacity to resuscitate Zimbabwe “unseat Mugabe”. Restless Arthur Mutambara is our everyday laughing stalk. One would wonder how many positions he has declared since his entry into national politics, and continue to wonder if he has a position at all. For the record, there was never a split in MDC, actually a few individuals left MDC. Our party has grown from strength to strength, has stood the test of time, and is ready for office. We shall not further discuss those who finish all the water reserves and later see the need to start fetching for more. You want to build it because you know how you destroyed it.
The students union makes no apology with regard to its allegiance and alliance to any process that champion student interests. We remain guided by our own founding principles and values during these trying times.
Clever Bere
President
